frugal friday : spring dresses

frugal friday : spring dresses

frugal friday : spring dresses by ohvadarling

It is Easter weekend and obviously I wanted to share some spring dress inspiration!  Whether you celebrate Easter or not I chose 5 great dresses, all under $100, that would be a great addition to your spring/summer wardrobe.

1.  J.Crew Factory - A great Easter dress & style to look cute but a little more conservative for anything you may have to attend this summer. (EXTRA 30% off everything ends 4/7)
2.  ASOS - A great summer going out dress with the little cut-out detailing at the waist and the cyan blue in the middle really is eye catching.
3.  Nordstrom - umm look at it!  So easy and romantic,  the lace detailing really makes this an awesome maxi.  Nude strappy sandals or flats this is a summer staple with pop.
4.  Anthropologie - Drop-waist dresses have been inching back into fashion and once The Great Gatsby hits theaters they WILL be everywhere.  This cotton one is awesome and an easy flattering way to to wear the trend everyday .  (20% off dresses ends 3/31)
5.  Piperlime - Fit & flare dresses are so girly and this one with a great floral print is awesome!  It can easily transform it with a jacket/blazer or wearing it as a skirt.

Here is another great simple cream lace dress for $29 from Old Navy.

What are your go-to spring dresses?

camo love.

After years of completely avoiding camouflage (I do live in a rural town where camo has been running rampant for years now so it has been tough), I have come to finally say :
i. love. camo.

These are words I never thought I would utter and my 11 year old self would be pretty disappointed in me (she really didn’t like camo) but I can’t deny the truth!  When I spotted a pair on sale at Zara in the winter my cold heart toward the print started to melt.  Once I saw these new GAP skimmers in such a perfect camo print my heart completely melted and it has been love ever since I tried them on.
The perfect ankle grazing camo print of my dreams. *sigh*
Since that day, I have been living happily ever after.  The end.

wear white.

blazer| c/o MAONO jeans| rich&skinny chambray|american eagle necklace|house of harlow belt| c/o MOANO bag|pour la victoire heels|diane von furstenberg

Like I said last Thursday, throw your old beliefs of not wearing white 9 months out of the year out the window!
White is in and I’m obsessed.
Throwing on a white blazer is the perfect way to ease it into a none summer white look (like above).  The best thing is that white just really makes your whole outfit crisp, put together, and a bit more interesting than your typical go-to black blazer.  So break the old outdated tradition and throw on some white for spring!  Give it a try! I promise you will love it :)

frugal friday : casual spring basics.

frugal friday : spring basics

frugal friday : spring basics by ohvadarling

I've compiled some great basics for spring that will get you through the season and aren't outrageously priced.  Everything is under $100!
Specifically on my wish list this season are drawstring pants like #7 and a denim vest like #1.  The denim vest is a statement that keeps coming back in trend and with the amount I wear my denim jacket, I could use a new fresh denim piece in my wardrobe.  The drawstring pants may seem a bit out there but the airy fabric, fun prints, and drawstring (HELLOOO, the more fashionable spring/summer legging replacement?!) seem right up my ally and a great piece to wear from spring into summer.

1. denim vest - GAP
2. statement shades - Forever 21
3. hat - Forever 21
4. loose fitting tee - Nordstrom
5. colored gingham - GAP
6. fit & flare dress - Delias
7. drawstring pants - Nordstrom
8. skater skirt - ASOS
9. heeled sandal - Sam Edelman
10. spring loafer - Nordstrom

What are you looking to grab to wear the spring?  Any new trends you want to try?

black + white

blazer| c/o MAONO blouse| c/o MAONO skirt| h&m (similar RACHEL Rachel Roy on sale!) sheer tights| similar booties| DVF

One of the big trends for spring is black + white.  I love it!  I think this may be the easiest trend to translate into real life.  And the fact that the "white rule" before Memorial Day is thrown out the window really makes me happy (who likes to follow pretend dress codes anyway?!).  When I tried on this white MAONO blazer, I instantly thought it was made and tailored for me.
After this thought, my addiction to blazers was as strong as ever and my love of the new black + white trend grew insanely.

FACT : This blazer is actually wool!  When I first tried it on I didn't even know because it was so soft!
FACT : The tailoring is amazing.

What I really love about this blazer besides the above mentioned, is the long lapel on the blazer to make it look more like a men's jacket.  It just really differentiates itself from all the other white blazer's I've contemplated buying over the last year but never took the plunge on.

NEXT WEEK I'll show you how I styled this blazer for a more casual look, and how it really is a great dressy or casual addition to a look.

(un)mellow yellow.

So I am officially done boycotting maxi's.  When I went int Langford Market Mosaic a few weeks ago, this was the first thing I grabbed.  The amazing yellow color, the slit in the side,  the open back, and the fact that I HAVE to wear heels with it so it wont drag.  I couldn't resit trying it on and then taking it home.
So now all I need is for some nice weather again so I can wear heels and dresses!
Spring, where are you?!

And the WINNER of the purse giveaway is Charlotte!  I will be emailing you soon :)
And thank you sooooo much to everyone who entered!  I truly appreciated it and since the response was so amazing I will be doing another giveaway soon, so stay tuned ;)

crisp classic.

3 things to discuss here:

1.  MAONO is an awesome company out of DC that makes some great classic pieces with uh-maze-ing tailoring and donates 5% of every item sold goes to the Boys & Girls Club.   A great company that understands fit and is philanthropic is a rare combo.
The tailoring in this shirt is impeccable and I love how it is great for both work or play.
This bag could be my ultimate favorite.  I'm in love with the soft leather and the great organizational pockets in the middle.  I can fit all my essentials and still be organized(I never thought this would be possible!) The tied silk pocket square adds a "I want to feel European and sophisticated in my rural Virginia town" touch without being overwhelming.

2.  And this awesome dog that photo-bombed a few pictures is my dog Sweet Pea.  She is a sassy lab-beagle mix that just wanted her picture taken but I convinced her to share the camera with me.  She's so sweet.

3.  Have you entered my free bag giveaway yet?  Enter here.  It closes Monday at midnight!

little lace dress.

dress|c/o langford market  jacket|abercrombie kids(similarnecklace|bella lola by sg bag|c/o langford market booties|dv by dolce vita(similar)

Spring is here!  Or at least this weekend made it feel like it.  I threw on this comfy versatile lace dress from Langford Market, my fave casual booties, and ran errands around town.

For all of you in the Northern Virginia area, Langford Market is located in the new Mosaic shopping district in Fairfax right off Lee Highway.  Langford Market stands out among all the other stores in the center by offering that awesome cozy boutique layout and feel but lacking the usual high boutique prices.  Win-win, right?  I think yes!  Cute clothes, a ton of amazing jewelry, cute handbags, and the friendliest employees fill the store.  It really is hard not to walk out with something because everything is so cute (and affordable!)

Langford Market Mosaic was super nice to give away a bag to one of you all!  To enter just be  at least 18 years old and complete the different requirements below.
(all social media links are at the top of the page now!)

The giveaway ends Monday night at midnight and I will announce the winner next Tuesday!  Good Luck!!

dot it.

dress// old navy (only $15!) tights//nordstrom heels//seychelles (buy them here) belt//gap

Just a quick post because really up until today, the weather has been too cold for me to enjoy being outside let alone being out side to take pictures.  This is a great sheer shirt-dress that I grabbed at Old Navy when I was running errands one day.  This is a super easy (and cheap) dress to just throw on and go and still look put together (it obviously fuels my polka dot obsession).

But the weather is changing and is expected to be steadily in the 50's for the next week so I am so excited to come out of hibernation and take my new Canon T4i out and capture everything I'm wearing and doing.
I have a few exciting things to share next week so stay tuned, and i'll give you a hint :

So, this outfit is totally inappropriate since we are expecting a foot of snow within the next 24 hours, but I can't express how excited I am for warmer weather!  I snagged this maxi at a local discounted store and plan on wearing it non-stop this spring.  I was weary of maxi's because of my height, but have become pretty obsessed with them this season.

frugal friday : emerald shift dress

frugal friday : emerald shift dress

frugal friday : emerald shift dress by ohvadarling featuring kate spade

If you haven't heard, the color of 2013 is emerald green.  So, for this Frugal Friday I wanted to incorporate this amazing color into 2 different looks.

A shift dress is such a great piece to thrown on in a rush but still look cute, not to mention they are usually super comfy.  This shift dress from ASOS is a great color and cut(available in 3 other colors) and you can easily transform your outfit from running errands to a hot night out.

For the casual look, really anything can go.  It may be March 1st but it is still winter and chilly out so adding layers and boots to the dress really can make it winter weather appropriate.  The emerald will peek through your big neutral layers and go well with any brown boots.

For the dressy look, I love gold accents and really wanted the dress to be the statement (as well as the legs), so kept everything pretty simple.  The emerald color is so beautiful and wanted it to be the eye catcher.  I think you can really get a lot of bang for your buck with this dress.

boots: Nine West
sweater: Piperlime
scarf : Forever 21

booties: Calvin Klein
